I wanted to share a great resource that is very helpful for proper pronunciation of our phonograms. The app is called; Phonograms by Spalding Education International. The app is made by the Spalding program we use at school for Literacy. This app will allow your child to practice his/her oral and written phonograms.
I also have phonogram cards that I can send home if you would like a set. Please just email me, and I will put it in your child's red folder.

Week of April 3rd, 2017 (posted by Angela Williams; 03/31/17)

This week our Phonogram Assessment will be the same as usually. However, our Spelling Assessment will be different. I will assess the students by asking them to match the two smaller words that make up the individual compound word. Please practice this with your child at home. We practiced today by using our fingers. Please ask them to demonstrate - it is really sweet!

RAZ KIDS (posted by Angela Williams; 02/24/17)
Dear 1st Grade Parents,
This month I am introducing Raz Kids to our class. Raz Kids is an online reading resource that allows children to; listen, read, and answer comprehension questions to a story. This is a great way to have kids read. Instead of sending books home weekly, students will read 3 books a week on Raz Kids. This will include them listening to the story, reading it, and answering the comprehension questions. Those reports are sent directly to me. If I did not feel that this was an extremely beneficial resource, I would not be requiring it. I have attached a login card and information about how to login to this week's homework slip.
I am so pleased with how our Literacy class is doing. We are becoming strong and confident readers and I could not be more proud!
A sincere thank you for all you do with your child,
Angela Williams

Hello 1st Grade Parents,
I noticed that the homework slip had N/A for Spelling and Phonograms. The students DO have Spelling and Phonograms for this week. They have been on my website since last Saturday. Also, the students practice their words and phonograms in class daily. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I do plan on giving the assessments on Friday.
Best, Angela

Week of December 9th, 2016. (posted by Angela Williams; 12/09/16)
We will NOT have a Spelling and Phonogram assessment this week. However, students will still complete their 30 minutes of Istation and read their small books.
I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday. I have enjoyed EVERY minute with your children. I am blessed to have the opportunity to teach each and every one of them!
Happy Holidays,
Mrs. Williams

Sight Words (posted by Angela Williams; 11/28/16)
Sight Words
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I have put a booklet of Sight Words in each child's red folder. I would love students to practice each word list at home - ONE LIST AT A TIME. This booklet should stay in their red folders at all times. When a student has mastered a word list they will orally say the list words to me. When they have competed a word list they will add a scoop of ice cream to their personal cones! Our class cones are displayed in the classroom. This activity is to encourage students to work on their sight words for reading and writing.
