These next two week are going to be a little different! The week of 5/1 we will be working on completing our 5 paragraph essays, fluency, grammar and learning about Fredrick Douglass and the Underground Railroad. The week of 5/8 we will have a normal day Monday, field trip Tuesday, and will be mixed in with regular classes for the remainder of the week due to the Washington DC trip. I will be helping 5th grade teach literacy and rotate through their schedule. NO more homework this year!

This week we will work on our 5 paragraph persuasive writing. Ask you student what topic they have chosen to write about? We will continue reading Fredrick Douglas and look at his character and what was happening in society at this time in history. There is spelling and fluency homework this week and for the next 4 weeks.

This week we will be having MAPs testing on Monday and Tuesday during Language Arts. The rest of the week we will continue reading fluency, writing and start the book Fredrick Douglas.

This week we will have two days of PARCC testing. The rest of the week will be spent working on our conclusion of The Secret Garden and there might be a little homework if the students do not finish in class. The students will work on 5 paragraph writing.

This week in Language Arts we will continue reading The Secret Garden. They students love it so make sure to ask them to update you on the story. We will be learning about colons, text structure, and the five mental actions to do when we read. As always, we will be working on fluency and written responses to writing.

This week we will be editing and finalizing our cause and effect essays. It is about if we did not have technology and what effect it would have on our lives. We have had some great conversations about it. We will continue to read The Secret Garden.

This week we will be diving into the Cause and Effect relationship and the writing process. We will also be starting The Secret Garden for literature. There is only comprehension homework this week due to the fact that we are doing fluency drills at school and spelling homework will be changing a little.

This week we will be producing the final draft of our compare and contrast essay. We just finished Mid Summers Nights Dream and will be starting Myths, Legends, and Folktales during our literacy block. We will continue to do timed fluency passages, phonograms, and spelling. Have a great week!

This week we will be working on compare and contrast essay with a thesis statement (this will be a couple week project). Please have your child compare and contrast thing at home. Also, look for their "ouch stories". We will continue reading Midsummers Night's Dream and learning more about the characters. Each student has a part in the play so you can ask them who they are and what the play is about :)

This week we will continue with the wonderful mysteries of Sherlock Holmes! The students will also be working on their final edit of a personal narrative, journal entries, and the 5 mental actions.

This week we will continue to edit and compose our persuasive paragraph. We will also have a spelling test and phonogram test on Monday. In class, we will be examining the character of Sherlock Holmes and reviewing vocabulary from the book.

This week we will be working on persuasive papers and finding a topic that we are really passionate about. In reading we will be finishing up Don Quixote and summarizing the book. We will also be reviewing the 5 mental actions (be sure to ask your student about these)!

This week we will be finishing Don Quixote. We will summarize the story and pick out the important parts of the book. We will continue to work on the 5 mental actions. In writing, we will be working on our persuasive paragraphs. Make sure you ask your student about their topic!
