Facility Assistant

American Academy (AA) has an opening for a full-time Facility Assistant. The Facility Assistant at American Academy is a “hands on” position that maintains the day-to-day operations at both campuses and assumes responsibility for the working environment and physical asset of the school and property under the direction of the Facility Director. The Facility Assistant position has a flexible schedule.   • Adhere to the mission and philosophy of American Academy with enthusiasm, commitment, and integrity
  • Uphold and model American Academy’s Core Virtues and Essential 23 (manners)
  • Complete maintenance requests issued in a timely manner
  • Work within budget limits
  • Help maintain building inventory for cost effective operations
  • Assist with scheduling and completion of Preventive Maintenance Program
  • Assist in monitoring work being performed by outside contractors
  • Monitor and maintain all building systems
  • Operate a variety of equipment such as hand tools, power tools, laptop computers and test equipment required to perform work
  • Complete grounds work that may include, picking up trash, sweeping and maintaining parking areas and dumpster area
  • Ensure safety standards are used and comply with school, local, city, state and federal guidelines
  • Read blueprints, schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Responsible for 24-Hour emergency maintenance on-call, carry mobile phone/radio as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested


  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Minimum job-related experience; 1-2 years experience in building maintenance field preferred
  • Verbal and written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Knowledge in a variety of trade areas common to the field of building maintenance
  • Knowledge of the use and operation of hand tools, power tools, and equipment

Other Qualifications:

  • Must pass a pre-employment background check
  • Must have reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
