Literacy Ability Grouping Teacher (K-5th)

American Academy (AA) is accepting applications for K-5th literacy/ability grouping instructors for the 2017-2018 academic year. AA teachers work in teams, planning together and working together to ensure that every student in each grade receives the same great educational experience. Ability grouping teachers teach reading groups for two to three different grades (working with multiple grade-level teams) as well as one section of math. The reading groups are typically small and require intensive, data-driven, literacy instruction.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to the mission and philosophy of American Academy with enthusiasm, commitment, and integrity.
  • Teach American Academy's curriculum with fidelity.
  • Uphold and model American Academy’s Manners and Character.
  • Work as a positive member of the grade level team to provide an exceptional education.
  • Meet each child’s academic needs through data-driven instruction.
  • Develop and maintain a positive partnership with parents through frequent communication of progress and concerns.
  • Maintain positive relationships with co-workers, students, and administration.
  • Timely upkeep of records including grades and assignments in Infinite Campus and updates on webpage.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education
  • Elementary Education teaching license
  • Preferred Experience:

    • Spalding literacy instruction
    • Reading intervention programs such as Reading Plus or Fountas & Pinnell
    • Saxon Math
    • Core Knowledge philosophy
    • Use of assessment data to drive instruction
    • Integration of technology into lessons (iPad literacy applications)
    • Differentiation of instruction to reach all levels of ability
